It is hard to believe that we have already completed the first month of school. I have had the opportunity to visit every grade level in the school, and begin to learn more about your children. I have discovered kind, warm-hearted and passionate students who truly love their school. Your children are in good hands, as we have an excellent teaching staff that will ensure a rigorous program, engaged learning and modeling of the school values. I want to thank all of you for your support and cooperation in helping make our school such a successful, collaborative place where our children are striving to achieve their best.
Although we already have an excellent school, we will continue to strive to make Granadino even a better place for students to learn. As I mentioned in the various “Back to School” events, we will be closely analyzing our teaching and evaluation practices this year to ensure that our students are receiving truly meaningful feedback for their work. In addition, we will continue to strengthen our values programs, support the arts and athletics and work to widen our scope of social service. And of course, we work diligently to improve school services including the tienda, and a variety of long-term facilities projects.
I am committed to strengthening collaboration between the school and the families of each student. For that reason, I will be scheduling various meetings for parents called “Coffee with the Director”. The “Coffees” will be an opportunity for interested parents to learn a little bit more about the events of the specific grade level, and the whole school in general. Although there will be a specific agenda prepared, I do hope to receive valuable feedback from parents. Individual or personal concerns will not be addressed at these meetings, but you are welcome to speak to me about them at a different time. The first set of “Coffees” will be scheduled for the end of September.
My goal is to keep this blog as updated as possible, and in the future it will be less like a letter, and more about informing parents about specific topics or trends in our school. This will most definitely include updates on our re-accreditation process. Ideally, parents will feel free to leave feedback in the comments.
Again, I want to thank all of you for the support I have felt for the beginning of the school year. I am extremely content in this new position and I am looking forward to the rest of the school year.
